Buy a Maine Coon in the UK
When buying a Maine Coon kitten, ensure the breeder tests for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM via echocardiogram and DNA test for the MyBPC3 mutation), hip dysplasia (X-ray screening), spinal muscular atrophy (SMA DNA test), and polycystic kidney disease (PKD DNA test). Maine Coons are slow-maturing cats that don't reach full size until 3-5 years. Visit the breeder to see the kittens and at least one parent. Kittens should be well-socialised, confident, and at least 13 weeks old before leaving the breeder.

Temperament
Maine Coons are friendly, sociable, and playful. Often described as 'dog-like', they follow their owners around, come when called, and some enjoy playing fetch. They are gentle with children and get along well with other pets. They are vocal cats with a distinctive chirping trill rather than a typical meow. They mature slowly, maintaining kitten-like playfulness into adulthood.
